IBS? But why? Is it actually SIBO?

Do you suffer from digestive issues?

Digestive disturbance is incredibly common unfortunately. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a general medical term assigned to many different conditions. Most require gut healing, something Naturopathy can assist with. A large proportion of IBS is actually caused by Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrown (SIBO).

Within our digestive tract with have different parts the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine & large intestine or colon. Disorders or dysbiosis in different parts of this system lead to many different issues.
Issues in the oesophagus can lead to reflux or acidity issues.
Problems in the stomach may be from acidity issues which may go on to cause ulcerations.
Overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine can be a problem. We should have lots of bacteria in our large intestine or colon, but minimal in our small intestine in healthy digestion. However issues with irregular bowel movements or leaky gut, or a recent stomach bug & or use of antibiotics can sometimes lead to SIBO. If properly diagnosed it is treatable.
Naturopathically that involves breath testing as the bacteria cause increased hydrogen & or methane in the breath which is detectable.
Once that is diagnosed, working with a qualified gut specialist through, changes in diet, gut healing & herbal support we work to reduce the overgrowth & repopulate with beneficial bacteria, leading to a better balance gut microbiome & reduced symptoms & improved quality of life.
