I made some vanilla essence.
Not the cheapest gift, as I choose to get organic Madagascan vanilla pods, but a lovely gift. You just need to make it well ahead of time as it's best to leave for 6 months before use. The longer you leave it the better. You can also continue to top up with more vodka & more vanilla pods for a continuous bottle of vanilla essence.
Take 1-3 vanila pods cut to fit the bottle using. I used some 50ml & some 30ml bottles. I split the vanilla pods lengthways to allow the seeds to easily infuse the vodka.
Pop the vanilla in the bottles & top with vodka. Pop the lids on. Then leave for at least 6 months. Shake often to infuse.
